The short version
- Nothing you open or make is uploaded. Pictures, videos and drawings are opened, edited and saved on your device, in your browser.
- There are no accounts, no sign-up, no analytics, no ads and no tracking.
- We set no cookies.
- The server keeps a short log of which pages were asked for, for 14 days, without your IP address.
- The Photo editor downloads fonts from Google Fonts, and its subject and depth finders from other sites, when you use them; Photo Lab downloads the same subject finder for Select subject. Your pictures are not sent.
Who runs PixelDodo
PixelDodo (pixeldodo.com) is run by Sourabh Shen, an individual in India, who is responsible for this site and the data described here. You can write to [email protected] about anything on this page.
Your files
The six editors (Screenshots, Photo, Video, Sketch, Vector and Photo Lab) run entirely in your browser. When you open a picture, video, sound or drawing file, your browser reads it on your device. Editing, saving and exporting happen on your device too. No file, and nothing you make, is sent to our server or to anyone else.
The Video, Sketch and Vector editors go further: their pages tell your browser not to connect to any other site, so nothing can be sent from them even by mistake.
Features that recognise things in a picture also run on your device. The face finder used by Photo's Beautify tools comes from this site, and its usage reporting is switched off in our copy.
Photo's Present and record uses your camera and microphone only after you allow it, and only while you record. The video is made on your device and saved to it. Songs, videos and GIFs you add to a design stay in your browser and are mixed into its videos on your device.
When you add a photo, Photo reads the camera's notes in it (camera, lens, settings, date and, if the camera saved it, where it was taken) to show you under Camera › Photo info. They are kept with the design in your browser, and Forget it removes them. Files you download from Photo never contain them.
Photo Lab reads the same notes from the photos you import and keeps them with your library in this browser. When you export a JPEG you choose whether they go into the file: all of them, all but the place (the default), or none. PNG and WebP exports never contain them.
Screenshots' Capture screen uses your browser's screen sharing only after you choose a window, tab or screen, and takes one picture of it there and then; sharing stops at once and the picture stays on your device.
What the server records
Like most web servers, ours writes a log line for each request: the date and time, the address asked for (for example /photo/), whether it worked, its size, the page you came from, and your browser's name and version (its "user agent"). Your IP address is not in it: the server only sees requests passed on by Cloudflare (below).
We use the log only to keep the site working and to spot misuse. It is kept for 14 days and then deleted, and it is not shared or combined with anything else.
Cloudflare
Every visit to PixelDodo passes through Cloudflare, which delivers the site quickly and protects it from attacks. To do that, Cloudflare handles your IP address and the details of each request, as described in Cloudflare's privacy policy. Cloudflare may process this outside your country. If it suspects automated traffic, it can set a security cookie: see Cookies and storage.
Other services, in Photo and Photo Lab only
Screenshots, Video, Sketch and Vector fetch nothing from other sites. Photo does, in three cases, and never sends a picture:
- Fonts. The first time a design uses a font, Photo downloads it from Google Fonts. Google then receives your IP address and browser details, as with any download, under Google's privacy policy. Google says it does not use Google Fonts requests to build profiles or target ads.
- The subject finder. When you use Remove background, or another tool that finds the subject of a photo (Select subject, Blur background, sticker cut-outs, Dispersion, Motion trail), or Photo Lab's Subject mask, the editor downloads an open-source model from jsDelivr and IMG.LY. Those sites receive your IP address and browser details, as with any download. The model then runs on your device, on your picture, which stays there.
- The depth finder. When you use Lens blur by depth or Select by depth, Photo downloads transformers.js from jsDelivr and the open-source Depth Anything model (about 27 MB) from Hugging Face. Those sites receive your IP address and browser details, as with any download. The model runs on your device; your picture stays there.
What is kept in your browser
So that your work is there next time, Photo, Video, Sketch and Vector keep it in your browser's own storage on your device: your designs (with any song you added, their comments and the versions Photo keeps of them) and the pictures you added to Photo (its Your uploads), projects (with copies of the files you added), drawings and documents (and the versions of them you choose to keep), and your settings. Screenshots keeps the picture you are working on (its screenshots, any pictures you laid on them and what you drew), its settings, your saved looks and a watermark logo if you add one. This storage is on your device, not ours: we cannot see it, and another browser or device starts empty.
You can delete it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser's settings. Remember that this also deletes your work, so download anything you want to keep first. Cookies and storage lists everything kept.
What we never do
- We don't collect your name, email or any account details: there are no accounts.
- We don't use analytics, advertising, tracking pixels or social media plugins.
- We don't sell or share personal data, and don't use it for profiling or to train AI.
Children
PixelDodo collects no personal data from anyone, children included, beyond the short-lived records above. It is a general tool, not aimed at children. A parent or guardian who has a question can write to us.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, the GDPR in Europe and the UK, or California's privacy laws) you may have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to its use, and to complain to a data protection authority.
In practice we hold almost nothing that identifies you: the server log has no IP addresses and is deleted after 14 days, and your work is only on your device. If you write to us we will answer within 30 days, and delete your email when the matter is closed. Cloudflare, Google and IMG.LY handle requests about the data they receive themselves.
We rely on our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website for the server log and Cloudflare, and on your request when you use a feature that downloads something.
Changes to this policy
If what the site does with data changes, this page will change first, with a new date at the top. A change that collects more data would be explained on the site before it takes effect.
